Overview
- The Assistant Controller supports financial operations, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Finance and Controller for accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain financial integrity and contribute to process improvements and policy formulation.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, fostering professional growth and adherence to best practices.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of payroll, tax returns, and compliance documentation.
- Develop expertise in local and state tax regulations relevant to the construction industry.
- Support subcontractor prequalification processes and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Participate in audits, budget preparation, and cost variance analysis.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate and prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Establish internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and analyzing cost variances.
- Manage general ledger, payroll, and 401K administration processes.
- Supervise preparation of payroll-related returns and IRS forms.
- Ensure accuracy in job cost data and project accounting information.
- Develop expertise in sales/use tax returns and construction industry regulations.
- Maintain licenses and tax accounts proactively.
- Support subcontractor prequalification and financial information confidentiality.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA license or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction financial/general ledger accounting.
- Proficient in communication, planning, organization, and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated with excellent organizational abilities.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Knowledge of local and state tax regulations in the construction industry.
- Experience in payroll, tax return preparation, and compliance documentation.
