Job Description

Overview

  • The Assistant Controller supports financial operations, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Finance and Controller for accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain financial integrity and contribute to process improvements and policy formulation.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, fostering professional growth and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of payroll, tax returns, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop expertise in local and state tax regulations relevant to the construction industry.
  • Support subcontractor prequalification processes and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Participate in audits, budget preparation, and cost variance analysis.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Coordinate and prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Establish internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and analyzing cost variances.
  • Manage general ledger, payroll, and 401K administration processes.
  • Supervise preparation of payroll-related returns and IRS forms.
  • Ensure accuracy in job cost data and project accounting information.
  • Develop expertise in sales/use tax returns and construction industry regulations.
  • Maintain licenses and tax accounts proactively.
  • Support subcontractor prequalification and financial information confidentiality.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA license or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction financial/general ledger accounting.
  • Proficient in communication, planning, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Knowledge of local and state tax regulations in the construction industry.
  • Experience in payroll, tax return preparation, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong mentoring and training capabilities for junior staff.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial information.
