Job Description
Overview
- Provide physical therapy services to students aged 6 to mid-20s with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Evaluate students and design therapy programs tailored to individual needs and classroom routines.
- Utilize strategies such as exercises, manual therapy, and adaptive equipment to enhance physical function.
- Collaborate with caregivers and staff to ensure consistent therapy implementation across environments.
- Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries accurately and timely.
- Provide consultation and training to staff to support therapeutic strategies in day and residential settings.
- Recommend assistive devices and adaptive equipment to improve student participation and independence.
- Maintain compliance with program and regulatory requirements in clinical and administrative records.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct assessments using standardized tests, clinical observations, and medical record reviews.
- Develop individualized therapy plans addressing musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments.
- Implement therapy sessions, including exercises and manual therapy, in 30-minute intervals.
- Provide in-service training to staff for effective carryover of therapy strategies.
- Collaborate with caregivers to align therapy plans between home and school environments.
- Recommend adaptive equipment and assistive technology to enhance student participation.
- Document therapy activities and progress in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Perform other related duties as required to support student development and program goals.
Job Requirements
- Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 1 year of pediatric experience with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Proficient in developing and implementing therapy plans for diverse needs.
- Experience with adaptive equipment and assistive technology recommendations.
- Strong documentation skills adhering to program and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with caregivers and interdisciplinary teams.
