Truss Designer Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design roof and floor truss systems using specialized software like MiTek SE or Alpine.
  • Review architectural plans and engineering specifications to create structurally sound designs.
  • Ensure truss layouts comply with building codes, engineering standards, and customer expectations.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, efficiency, material utilization, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives, builders, contractors, engineers, and production teams.
  • Revise and update designs as project requirements evolve.
  • Provide technical support and design recommendations to internal and external customers.
  • Produce accurate truss placement diagrams, layouts, and production drawings.

Truss Designer Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in truss design; 4 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in truss design software such as MiTek SE, Alpine, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and structural plans.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, building materials, and structural components.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Preferred associate's degree or equivalent technical training in construction design.
