Oncology Pharmacist

Overview

• Deliver specialized pharmaceutical care in a dynamic oncology setting, ensuring optimal medication management for cancer patients.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Educate patients and caregivers on medication regimens, potential side effects, and adherence strategies.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Prepare and dispense medications, including chemotherapy, adhering to established safety protocols and standards.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and oversee the accurate preparation and distribution of medications.
• Conduct pharmacokinetic consultations and adjust dosages based on patient-specific factors.
• Monitor drug therapies for efficacy, contraindications, and potential interactions.
• Provide clinical consultations and drug information to healthcare providers and patients.
• Participate in medication use reviews and contribute to quality assurance programs.
• Support initiatives in antibiotic stewardship and manage medication shortages effectively.
• Mentor pharmacy residents and students, fostering their professional development and growth.

Job Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required; board certification or residency completion preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in oncology or hospital pharmacy; 3 years preferred.
• Active state pharmacy licensure required within 60 days of hire.
• BLS or ACLS certification required; PALS certification preferred for pediatric practice.
• Proficiency in compounding sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, and oncology pharmacotherapy.
• Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Commitment to continuous learning and adherence to institutional protocols and standards.
