Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering patient care and administrative support in a healthcare setting.
  • Perform clinical tasks including documenting symptoms, recording vital signs, and administering injections.
  • Support diagnostic processes by conducting tests, collecting specimens, and drawing blood.
  • Ensure examination rooms are well-maintained and equipment is sterilized to meet healthcare standards.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Document patient symptoms and medical history accurately in electronic medical records.
  • Perform vital sign measurements and administer prescribed medications and vaccines.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, collect specimens, and assist in phlebotomy procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and medical equipment.
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and patient safety protocols.
  • Provide operational support to the healthcare team, including administrative tasks.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential is required in certain states.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant; value-based care experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and medication/vaccine administration is essential.
  • CPR certification and compliance with tuberculosis screening requirements are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and patient experience metrics is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred; language proficiency testing required.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage patient care and administrative tasks effectively.
