Controller Overview
- The Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, billing, collections, and cash management functions within a professional services environment.
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, managing financial health and profitability reporting.
- Focus on accounts receivable, time and billing, collections, and realization reporting to support organizational goals.
- Collaborate with partners and leadership to present financial results and operational metrics.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections to ensure financial stability.
- Lead initiatives to improve internal controls, operational efficiencies, and automation processes.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.

- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards while managing external relationships.
Controller Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management operations.
- Prepare financial statements and manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Lead accounts receivable and collections functions, implementing strategies to accelerate collections.
- Monitor staff utilization, realization, and billing rates to optimize engagement profitability.
- Develop KPI reporting related to realization, utilization, billing, collections, and partner productivity.
- Evaluate and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency.
- Supervise accounting, billing, and administrative staff, setting departmental goals and expectations.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and vendors to ensure operational success.
- Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of client engagements, billing arrangements, and rate structures.
Controller Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
- CPA designation is strongly preferred for this role.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience; 12 years preferred.
- Prior experience within a CPA firm or professional services organization is essential.
- Proficiency in accounts receivable, collections, time and billing, and financial reporting.
- Technical expertise with systems such as QuickBooks Enterprise, Sage Intacct, and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing partner compensation, profitability reporting, and practice metrics.
- Strong knowledge of professional services KPIs including realization and utilization metrics.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring skills to foster team development and collaboration.
