Benefits Manager Overview

  • The Benefits Manager will oversee and administer comprehensive benefits programs across the US and Canada, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance benefits strategies, contributing to employee satisfaction and organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure accurate reconciliation of employee benefits enrollment data and payroll deductions.
  • Support open enrollment processes, including planning, system configuration, and post-enrollment audits.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements such as ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and Canadian provincial regulations.
  • Develop and produce analytical reports on benefits utilization and cost metrics for leadership review.
  • Ensure the integrity of benefits data within HRIS systems and across payroll and vendor platforms.
  • Provide exceptional support to employees, addressing inquiries and resolving escalations effectively.
  • Contribute to a dynamic and fast-paced environment, driving process improvements and operational efficiency.

Benefits Manager Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Administer health, welfare, and retirement plans, serving as the primary contact for employee and vendor inquiries.
  • Reconcile employee benefit elections with payroll deductions and vendor-reported data to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage wellness and voluntary benefit programs, including funding reconciliations and compliance checks.
  • Validate vendor invoices against enrollment data and contracted rates, resolving discrepancies proactively.
  • Support annual open enrollment processes, including planning, system updates, and communication strategies.
  • Maintain benefits data integrity within HRIS systems and ensure synchronization across platforms.
  • Produce detailed reports on benefits utilization and cost metrics for leadership and financial analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, supporting filings and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to address escalations and optimize plan performance.

Benefits Manager Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with 4–6 years of benefits administration experience.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (e.g., UKG) and benefits carrier management.
  • Strong knowledge of US benefits compliance; Canadian benefits experience is advantageous.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities accurately.
  • Financial acumen to reconcile data sets and resolve discrepancies effectively.
  • Clear communication skills, capable of interfacing with employees and senior leadership.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience managing open enrollment processes from planning to execution.
