Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant serves as the initial point of contact for patient care, providing administrative and clinical support in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Collaborates closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure seamless patient care delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Performs clinical duties including vital signs collection, medication administration, phlebotomy, and diagnostic screening tests adhering to certification guidelines.
  • Maintains examination rooms, sterilizes equipment, and documents patient information in electronic medical records systems accurately.
  • Operates within defined parameters while exercising discretion in prioritization and timing of assignments under minimal supervision.
  • Supports patient-facing initiatives, including tuberculosis screening programs and bilingual communication for enhanced patient experiences.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct patient interviews to discuss symptoms, obtain vital signs, and document medical history accurately.
  • Administer medications and vaccines, perform phlebotomy, and collect specimens following established protocols.
  • Perform diagnostic screening tests and ensure examination rooms are maintained and sterilized appropriately.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver direct patient care within certification limitations.
  • Document patient information into electronic medical records systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Support operational and administrative tasks, including scheduling and customer service assignments.
  • Participate in tuberculosis screening programs and adhere to patient-facing role requirements.
  • Contribute to organizational goals by ensuring high-quality patient care and operational efficiency.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credentials or 5+ years of relevant experience with provider approval.
  • Hands-on phlebotomy experience, including blood draws and specimen collection.
  • CPR certification and adherence to tuberculosis screening program requirements.
  • Experience with medication and vaccine administration, diagnostic testing, and electronic medical records systems.
  • Knowledge of value-based care, including HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and patient experience metrics preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with successful completion of language proficiency testing.
  • Ability to work on-site, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, scheduled 40 hours per week.
