Head of Fund Accounting Overview

• The Head of Fund Accounting will oversee the firm's insurance operations accounting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and statutory accounting principles.
• Lead a team responsible for financial reporting, cash management, reconciliations, and operational accounting across multiple entities.
• Collaborate with investment accounting teams to manage consolidated financial reporting and intercompany settlements.
• Ensure accurate and timely filing of financial statements and compliance with state-specific requirements.
• Serve as the primary resource for technical accounting research and regulatory audits.
• Develop and maintain a robust internal control environment over insurance operations accounting.
• Provide guidance on accounting implications of new products or transactions.
• Directly manage and develop the finance team, setting goals and providing coaching.
• Support preparation of consolidated financial statements and group-level reporting requirements.

Head of Fund Accounting Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Oversee insurance operations accounting, including premium accounting, claims reserves, and reinsurance settlements.
• Manage statutory financial reporting and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with investment accounting teams on custodial matters and intercompany positions.
• Supervise the preparation of audited financial statements and disclosures.
• Research and implement new accounting standards to ensure compliance with SAP.
• Conduct annual audits of third-party administrators and manage regulatory examinations.
• Design and maintain internal controls over insurance operations accounting.
• Collaborate with actuarial teams on reserve development and policy liability movements.
• Complete ad hoc requests and support senior leadership with financial information.

Head of Fund Accounting Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the life insurance industry; 15 years preferred.
• Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles and GAAP life insurance accounting.
• Ability to manage people, processes, and projects effectively in a multi-entity environment.
• Experience with general ledger systems and insurance accounting systems is a plus.
• Proven ability to collaborate across geographically dispersed teams and matrixed organizations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for presenting financial information.
• Ability to research SAP accounting issues and reach technical conclusions.
• Strong leadership skills to develop and manage a high-performing finance team.
