Chief Risk Officer Overview

  • The Chief Risk Officer will lead enterprise-wide risk management, regulatory compliance, and safety programs, ensuring strong governance and disciplined oversight.
  • This role involves partnering with executive leadership and the Board to proactively manage risk across a global platform.
  • The position oversees regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, supporting expansion into new regulated markets.
  • The CRO will manage teams responsible for regulatory compliance, risk management, controls, and resilience.

Chief Risk Officer Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design and execute enterprise risk management frameworks across all business lines and geographies.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, including licensing, registrations, and obligations with authorities such as SEC and FINRA.
  • Lead regulatory examinations, audits, and inquiries, maintaining strong relationships with regulators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen internal controls and manage technology and data risks.
  • Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery plans are validated through regular testing.
  • Develop and maintain scalable policies, procedures, training, and controls aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, delivering actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, partnership, and risk awareness across global teams.

Chief Risk Officer Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of senior leadership experience in risk management, compliance, or governance within financial services or fintech.
  • Deep expertise in alternative investments, regulatory treatment, and product structure.
  • Proven track record of regulatory compliance in highly regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. securities regulation and familiarity with international frameworks.
  • Experience leading and scaling specialized global teams.
  • Professional certifications (FRM, CRCMP, CFA, CPA, CAMS) are a plus.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory concepts into practical solutions aligned with business strategy.
