Job Description
A nonprofit cultural organization in New York City is seeking a Manager for their Membership Services & Audience Development team to lead efforts in expanding its member base and building a deeper sense of community among its supporters. This is a key role on the Development team focused on audience engagement, membership growth, and high-touch relationship management.
Salary: $80-90K
Schedule: Fully onsite, Monday–Friday
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategies to expand and diversify the organization's member and audience base across digital and in-person channels
- Work with internal teams (social media, events, creative) to drive audience engagement and membership conversions
- Research and identify new prospects through partnerships, cultural and industry networks, and community outreach
- Lead recruitment efforts for members at all levels and serve as a key point of contact throughout the membership lifecycle
- Oversee benefit fulfillment, personalized engagement (e.g., birthdays, anniversaries), and ongoing communications
- Manage membership applications, invoices, tax acknowledgments, and correspondence
- Support “invitation-only” event engagement, such as exhibition previews, donor receptions, and fundraising galas
- Maintain accurate records in CRM systems and track benefit utilization and engagement metrics
- Represent the organization at member events (both in-person and virtual) and provide responsive, high-level customer service
- Collaborate on creative development of outreach materials including brochures, invitations, and follow-ups
- Contribute to social media initiatives as a brand ambassador by sharing content and engaging with digital communities
- Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and other special projects as needed
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in audience development, membership, marketing, or donor relations (nonprofit or cultural sector preferred)
- Strong knowledge of or interest in media, entertainment, or cultural programming
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, timelines, and competing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, relationship-driven approach to engagement
- Experience with CRM systems and data analysis to drive decision-making
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Must be available to work occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends for events
- Spanish fluency a plus
