Job Description

A hospital is seeking an experienced and strategic Interim Director of Risk Management to lead efforts at a leading 150-bed regional hospital. This critical leadership role will be responsible for developing and implementing robust risk management programs that protect patient safety, minimize organizational liability, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive enterprise-wide risk management strategy that aligns with hospital mission and patient care goals
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments, root cause analyses, and trend investigations for potential patient safety incidents and clinical events
  • Manage and coordinate risk management, patient safety, and claims management processes
  • Design and implement staff training programs focused on risk reduction, patient safety protocols, and legal compliance
  • Collaborate with medical staff, administrative leadership, and department heads to create proactive risk mitigation strategies
  • Prepare detailed reports for hospital leadership and board of directors regarding risk trends, mitigation efforts, and potential areas of improvement
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and California healthcare risk management requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Risk Management, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare risk management
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in claims management, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance
  • Advanced understanding of healthcare legal frameworks and insurance requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis and reporting
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in risk management information systems and software
