Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Organizational Leadership:
- Partner with the President and Executive Team to align financial strategy with organizational growth and programmatic goals
- Provide actionable analysis of financial and operational performance across departments
- Lead financial planning for mergers, partnerships, sponsorships, and capital investments
- Present updates to board-level finance and audit committees
Financial Management & Compliance:
- Oversee all financial operations including forecasting, budgeting, cash flow, grant management, and accounts payable
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, OMB audit requirements, and nonprofit regulatory guidelines
- Lead internal control implementation, policy creation, and audit preparation
- Oversee timely, accurate reporting to leadership, the board, funders, and auditors
Real Estate Development & Asset Oversight:
- Analyze acquisition proposals and capital investments in collaboration with real estate development staff
- Review complex legal agreements (e.g., tax credit structures, bond financing, debt/equity documents)
- Ensure proper funding requisitions, investor reporting, cost certifications, and draw submissions
- Liaise with property/asset managers and development teams to monitor performance of LIHTC and commercial portfolios
Team Management & Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Supervise a high-functioning finance department; manage performance, training, and strategic direction
- Guide budgeting processes across departments, fostering financial literacy and accountability among program leaders
- Support investor and donor relations by articulating the organization’s financial model and strategic direction
- Contribute to internal culture-building and the alignment of finance with organizational mission
Qualifications:
Required:
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- At least 12 years of progressive finance leadership experience in the nonprofit sector
- Deep understanding of nonprofit budgeting, compliance, and grant funding
- Experience working with federal and state regulatory requirements, audits, and multiple funding streams
- Familiarity with real estate development and accounting, especially related to affordable housing
Preferred:
- CPA designation
- Direct experience with Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), or real estate funding structures
- Background in managing foundation assets and presenting to high-level funders or boards
