Assistant Nurse Manager – Operating Room Surgical Services | Silicon Valley Area

Position Overview

A premier healthcare facility in the Silicon Valley area is seeking an experienced Operating Room Assistant Nurse Manager to join their award-winning surgical services team. This leadership role offers an exceptional opportunity to manage day-to-day operations in a state-of-the-art surgical environment with 12 operating room bays. The ideal candidate will provide clinical leadership while ensuring operational excellence, quality patient care, and staff development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage daily clinical operations including practice standards, staffing, payroll, budgets, fiscal management, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and established departmental policies and procedures
  • Develop and implement action plans to improve staff development and performance
  • Monitor allocation and utilization of personnel based on patient population/needs to provide optimal care while identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Oversee human resources management, department safety programs, and risk management
  • Monitor quality of service and utilization standards, ensuring coordinated treatment plans and cost-effective utilization of services
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers outside the OR to achieve optimal patient care across the continuum
  • Research, identify, and implement best practice models from other surgical units
  • Investigate and resolve patient/family concerns regarding surgical care
  • Provide clinical support including break relief, emergency staffing, and bedside training in the OR when needed

Collaborative Team Structure

  • Direct supervision of diverse OR staff including patient care technicians, LVNs, and RNs
  • Regular collaboration with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and procedural specialists
  • Work closely with an outstanding management team including the OR Manager and Director
  • Coordinate with pre-operative and post-operative care teams for seamless patient transitions
  • Engage with interdisciplinary professionals to enhance surgical outcomes and efficiency

Qualifications

  • Current California RN license (regular status, not temporary)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher (CNOR certification preferred)
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in an inpatient hospital OR setting
  • Demonstrated circulating and scrub RN experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as charge nurse, preceptor, quality improvement champion, or in a related leadership role

Preferred Experience

  • CNOR certification
  • Experience in a union hospital environment
  • Teaching, training, and/or preceptor experience
  • Charge nurse experience in surgical services
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives in the OR setting
