Job Description

Title: Assistant Accounting Manager

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of corporate tax compliance, including the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings
  • Manage tax provisions and related reporting under ASC 740
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain thorough documentation for audit support
  • Advise on the accounting and tax implications of key business decisions, including transactions involving debt and fixed assets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments and serve as a point of contact for external auditors and consultants on tax-related matters
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting records for utility plant assets in accordance with regulatory guidelines
  • Contribute to rate case preparation and provide relevant accounting documentation or testimony as needed
  • Assist in leading system enhancements related to accounting processes, particularly around tax, utility assets, and long-term debt
  • Provide mentorship to junior accounting staff and support ongoing professional development within the department

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s in Taxation a plus
  • CPA required
  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience with significant exposure to corporate tax
  • Prior experience in a regulated industry or public company environment preferred
  • Utility industry experience and familiarity with regulated rate case processes strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and SEC reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and tax software platforms
  • Strong communication, project management, and analytical skills
  • Must be comfortable working fully on-site in a collaborative office setting, with some flexibility possible down the line
