Responsibilities of the Sonographer:
- Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including general, vascular, breast, and echocardiographic exams, in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
- Review patient history and clinical indications to determine the most appropriate imaging approach and ensure procedure suitability.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort, cooperation, and understanding throughout the imaging process.
- Operate ultrasound equipment and related technology to obtain optimal images for accurate diagnosis while adhering to safety and infection control standards.
- Monitor patient responses during procedures and report any concerning changes or reactions to appropriate clinical personnel.
- Accurately document procedure details, image findings, and patient interactions in the electronic medical record system.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance of sonographic equipment, promptly reporting any technical issues or malfunctions.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, including those from ARDMS, CCI, HIPAA, and state/federal guidelines.
- Collaborate with radiologists, cardiologists, breast specialists, and other healthcare team members to support comprehensive, timely patient care.
- Stay current with advances in sonographic techniques, emerging technologies, and continuing education requirements to maintain professional certification and deliver exceptional care.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, or Ultrasound Technology program.
- Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in applicable specialty areas (e.g., OB/GYN, Abdomen, Breast, Vascular, Adult Echo).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- State licensure or certification as required by applicable laws or facility policy.
- Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and patient-centered communication skills.
- Experience in a hospital or outpatient imaging setting is preferred; specialty experience (breast, cardiac, vascular) may be required for specific roles.
