Job Title: Cardiovascular Sonographer

Responsibilities of the Cardiovascular Sonographer (Echocardiography):
- Perform high-quality echocardiographic exams (e.g., transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms) in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols.
- Review patient history, clinical indications, and prior imaging to ensure the appropriateness of the exam and identify any potential contraindications.
- Effectively explain echocardiographic procedures to patients, addressing questions and promoting comfort, safety, and cooperation throughout the study.
- Accurately position patients and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic cardiac images, including M-mode, 2D, Doppler, and color flow studies.
- Assist with or administer contrast agents or pharmacologic stress agents under supervision, monitoring patient response and reporting any adverse reactions promptly.
- Document findings and measurements accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and prepare preliminary reports for physician review.
- Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance to ensure proper functionality; promptly report malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable standards and regulations, including those from ASE, IAC, HIPAA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, and other team members to provide timely, coordinated, and high-quality cardiovascular care.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with advancements in echocardiography techniques and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with a concentration in cardiac and vascular ultrasound.
- Active certification in both adult echocardiography and vascular technology, with at least one credential from each of the following:
- ARDMS: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- CCI: Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS), Registered Cardiac Congenital Sonographer (RCCS), or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS)
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience performing echocardiographic and vascular ultrasound studies in a diagnostic setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (must be valid for at least 60 days beyond hire date).
- Demonstrated expertise in acquiring and interpreting high-quality cardiovascular images, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in patient care.
