Job Description

Medical Director, Clinical Development – Onsite in San Diego

Our client, a clinical-stage biotech focused on addressing urgent medical needs through novel anti-infective therapies, is seeking a Medical Director of Clinical Development to join their tight-knit team. This is a highly collaborative role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment where communication and flexibility are key.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the development of Phase I clinical protocols and overall clinical strategy
  • Provide medical oversight for clinical trials and act as the primary medical contact for sites and CROs
  • Analyze clinical data and support regulatory filings (INDs, amendments, IBs, DSURs, etc.)
  • Contribute to study design, data review plans, and CRF development
  • Represent the company at key meetings, including investigator meetings and scientific conferences
  • Collaborate closely with clinical operations, regulatory, and translational teams

What We’re Looking For:

  • MD or PharmD required (PhDs will not be considered)
  • 5+ years of clinical research experience, with at least 3 years in the biopharma industry
  • Deep hands-on experience with early-phase (especially Phase I) trials is essential
  • Infectious disease experience is a plus, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—this is a collaborative, no-ego team environment
  • Must be comfortable working without direct reports and wearing multiple hats
