Construction Estimator
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Industry: General Contractor/Construction – Light Industrial and Commercial
About the Company
We represent a well‑established Columbus‑area general contracting firm with a strong presence in warehouse, light-industrial and commercial construction. The Estimator will join a collaborative preconstruction team and play an integral role in project competitiveness and accuracy.
What You’ll Do
- Lead full‑scope quantity takeoffs using tools like On‑Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar software.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Develop and manage subcontractor bid lists, issue RFQs, follow up on quotes, and ensure thorough coverage.
- Review estimates for completeness and accuracy, and participate in peer-review and value-engineering discussions.
- Liaise with internal teams, clients, architects, and trade partners to clarify scope and support bid presentations.
- Maintain awareness of market pricing trends, labor rates, and material fluctuations.
- Contribute to early-stage budget forecasts and scheduling aligned with project goals.
- Occasionally conduct site visits to validate scope and conditions.
Who You Are
- 3–5+ years of estimating experience – ideally with light industrial, warehouse, and commercial construction experience; experience with pre-engineered metal building a plus
- Skilled at reading architectural, structural, and MEP drawings. Able to interpret cross-discipline scopes.
- Proficient in Excel and comfortable learning takeoff software quickly.
- Detail-oriented; strong analytical mindset with persistence, enough to overcome typical imposter syndrome challenges.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities; comfortable collaborating with subcontractors, clients, and team members.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture Technology, or equivalent field experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $75,000–$100,000 (depending on experience).
