Job Description

Construction Estimator

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Industry: General Contractor/Construction – Light Industrial and Commercial

About the Company

We represent a well‑established Columbus‑area general contracting firm with a strong presence in warehouse, light-industrial and commercial construction. The Estimator will join a collaborative preconstruction team and play an integral role in project competitiveness and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead full‑scope quantity takeoffs using tools like On‑Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar software.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Develop and manage subcontractor bid lists, issue RFQs, follow up on quotes, and ensure thorough coverage.
  • Review estimates for completeness and accuracy, and participate in peer-review and value-engineering discussions.
  • Liaise with internal teams, clients, architects, and trade partners to clarify scope and support bid presentations.
  • Maintain awareness of market pricing trends, labor rates, and material fluctuations.
  • Contribute to early-stage budget forecasts and scheduling aligned with project goals.
  • Occasionally conduct site visits to validate scope and conditions.

Who You Are

  • 3–5+ years of estimating experience – ideally with light industrial, warehouse, and commercial construction experience; experience with pre-engineered metal building a plus
  • Skilled at reading architectural, structural, and MEP drawings. Able to interpret cross-discipline scopes.
  • Proficient in Excel and comfortable learning takeoff software quickly.
  • Detail-oriented; strong analytical mindset with persistence, enough to overcome typical imposter syndrome challenges.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities; comfortable collaborating with subcontractors, clients, and team members.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture Technology, or equivalent field experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $75,000–$100,000 (depending on experience).
  • Full benefits package typically includes health insurance, retirement benefits, PTO, and potential relocation assistance.
  • Mentorship opportunities and clear paths to senior estimator or preconstruction leadership roles.

Why Join This Team?

  • Be a core contributor in a dynamic preconstruction environment with high ownership over estimating deliverables.
  • Growth-oriented culture that values innovation, continuous improvement, and hands‑on learning.
  • Collaborative teams – many high-performing estimators start from varied backgrounds and succeed through mentorship and system-focused workflows.
