Job Description

Overview

  • Lead and manage operations within the Operating Room department, ensuring high-quality clinical services and adherence to healthcare standards.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to develop and implement department goals aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Promote a professional and positive work environment, mentoring and supporting staff for optimal performance.
  • Oversee staffing schedules, budget management, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the development of evidence-based standards of care and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure safe patient and employee environments while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Support hospital initiatives, act as a change agent, and contribute to community service efforts.
  • Maintain knowledge of department operations and participate in professional development activities.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage departmental operations, including staffing, budgeting, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Develop and implement department goals aligned with organizational strategies and objectives.
  • Conduct interviews, hire, evaluate, and counsel staff in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Ensure completion of staff orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing education requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to deliver age-appropriate, optimal patient care.
  • Participate in performance improvement programs to support quality metrics and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Develop evidence-based standards of care and policies for the department.
  • Support Magnet program initiatives and align department activities with organizational goals.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; matriculation in BSN program acceptable under specific conditions.
  • Current NY State Nursing License and BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • Certification in specialty area or CNML preferred, to be obtained within three years of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant acute care experience with prior management or leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellence in clinical skills and ability to function as a staff RN.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills essential for effective collaboration and leadership.
  • Knowledge of management principles and ability to oversee departmental operations effectively.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of shared governance and service excellence.
  • Adherence to ethical standards, patient rights, and safety protocols in nursing practice.
