Job Description

Overview

  • Manage nursing operations and practice for the Operating Room department, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care, satisfaction, and outcomes through effective communication and coordination.
  • Oversee resource utilization, including staffing and materials, to provide safe and cost-effective care.
  • Promote professional development and competency of nursing and administrative staff through training and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state licensure requirements.
  • Develop and implement unit-specific protocols, policies, and procedures to align with nursing practice trends.
  • Participate in budget planning and financial management to meet departmental needs effectively.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and patient care quality.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Monitor unit operations, measure progress towards goals, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Advocate for patients and families, ensuring rights are respected and satisfaction issues addressed.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources for recruitment, hiring, and staff development initiatives.
  • Evaluate staff performance, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional growth opportunities.
  • Direct staff participation in emergency and disaster plans, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Maintain quality control documentation and ensure compliance with clinical standards.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to address unit issues, safety, and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrators, and community stakeholders to enhance patient outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; RN license in state of employment or compact.
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with 6 years preferred; managerial experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, including Joint Commission requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, staff scheduling, and resource allocation effectively.
  • Experience in process improvement and policy development within healthcare settings.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to interact with interdisciplinary teams.
