Job Description

Overview

  • Contribute to financial reporting and accounting processes for insurance liabilities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Claims and Actuarial to provide timely financial insights and support.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts related to loss activity across various lines of business.
  • Assist in developing internal schedules for loss triangles, development analyses, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and walkthroughs for loss accounting activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and regulatory filings as required.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting accuracy and workflow automation.
  • Collaborate with IT to streamline and automate accounting processes for efficiency.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by management to support financial operations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare and record journal entries for loss activity across direct, ceded, and assumed lines of business.
  • Reconcile loss-related general ledger accounts and prepare supporting schedules for monthly and quarterly close processes.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining schedules for loss triangles and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and conducting walkthroughs.
  • Collaborate with Claims and Actuarial teams for reserve analysis and consistency across departments.
  • Contribute to financial statement preparation, including disclosures and regulatory filings.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting accuracy and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work with IT to improve and automate accounting workflows and processes.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the finance team’s objectives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in public or corporate accounting; insurance industry experience is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in US GAAP; knowledge of statutory accounting principles is a plus.
  • Experience with general ledger management, journal entries, and financial close processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and perform accurate reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and functions.
