Job Description

Overview

  • Analyze financial information and prepare fiduciary income, estate, and gift tax returns.
  • Apply fiduciary accounting principles to ensure compliance with tax regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with attorneys in the Estates and Personal Group for effective case management.
  • Maintain and update estate and trust accounts and records accurately.
  • Respond to IRS and state audit inquiries professionally and efficiently.
  • Prepare estate and trust accountings for judicial settlement in Surrogate’s Court.
  • Ensure adherence to firm’s information security policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to estate and gift tax planning, including actuarial and interest computations.
  • Prepare informational returns for tax-exempt entities with precision.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare and file Federal and state estate tax and gift tax returns.
  • Prepare and file Federal and state fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Develop estate and trust accountings for judicial settlement in Surrogate’s Court.
  • Maintain and update estate and trust accounts and records, ensuring accuracy.
  • Respond to IRS and state audit inquiries promptly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to manage estate and trust cases efficiently.
  • Apply actuarial and interest computations for estate and gift tax planning.
  • Prepare informational returns for tax-exempt entities with compliance.
  • Adhere to firm’s information security policies and report potential risks.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estate and trust environment; law firm experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, OMEGA accounting software, and Wolters Kluwer Pro Systems tax software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills essential.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Capability to establish and build partnerships in a team environment.
  • Experience in estate and gift tax planning, including actuarial computations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security of firm information.
