Overview
- Lead infection control practices and staff education in a healthcare facility.
- Coordinate orientation for new nursing employees to ensure competency.
- Collaborate with clinical consultants on infection control and educational initiatives.
- Oversee immunization programs for residents and staff.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and participate in surveys.
- Facilitate performance improvement activities in clinical departments.
- Chair infection control committee meetings and follow up on concerns.
- Provide continuing education activities for all staff.
- Monitor and report safety issues affecting residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coordinate infection control programs, including outbreak responses and statistical analysis.
- Develop and maintain infection control policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with the medical director and nursing leadership on infection control initiatives.
- Provide staff education on infection prevention practices.
- Track and schedule vaccinations for residents and employees.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement committees.
- Facilitate student nurse clinical learning experiences with external agencies.
- Maintain professional knowledge through seminars and workshops.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York State.
- Specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Minimum 4 years of experience; 5 years preferred in educational program management.
- BCLS certification required; APIC certification preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with staff and external agencies.
- Experience in long-term healthcare settings is advantageous.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (DOH, JCAHO).
- Ability to lead infection control committees and educational initiatives.
