Job Description

Overview

  • Provide specialized coding expertise to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Interpret and apply coding guidelines to support accurate claims processing and reimbursement.
  • Perform detailed audits of inpatient medical records to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement coding standards and policies.
  • Analyze health data to inform policy decisions and improve reimbursement processes.
  • Adapt to evolving industry demands to enhance coding efficiency and compliance.
  • Contribute to the improvement of healthcare quality through precise coding practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures in inpatient medical records.
  • Monitor and implement updates to coding regulations and standards.
  • Conduct audits to identify and rectify coding discrepancies and compliance issues.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs on coding practices and documentation.
  • Generate statistical reports to support compliance and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure accurate reporting and data validation.
  • Assist in policy development to enhance coding quality and operational efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience essential.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
  • Proficiency with encoder and EMR systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of coding compliance standards and denials management advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Expertise in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems essential.
