Job Description

Overview

  • Lead infection control initiatives in a healthcare setting, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting a safe environment for all.
  • Coordinate staff education programs to enhance knowledge and adherence to infection prevention protocols.
  • Develop and implement effective infection control policies and procedures tailored to organizational needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to address infection risks and improve patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyze infection data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Facilitate immunization programs for staff and residents, ensuring timely administration and record-keeping.
  • Participate in quality improvement committees to advance infection prevention strategies.
  • Maintain professional development through ongoing education and training in infection control practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Coordinate infection control programs, including outbreak response planning and statistical analysis of infection trends.
  • Develop, review, and update infection control policies to align with current standards and regulations.
  • Educate staff on infection prevention techniques, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with medical directors and nursing leadership to implement infection control measures.
  • Track and manage vaccination schedules for residents and employees, ensuring compliance with health guidelines.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance infection prevention outcomes.
  • Lead infection control committee meetings, addressing concerns and implementing solutions effectively.
  • Stay updated on infection control advancements through seminars and professional workshops.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred for advanced expertise.
  • Active Registered Professional Nurse license in New York State is mandatory.
  • Specialized training in infection prevention and control practices is essential.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in infection control; 5 years preferred.
  • BCLS certification required; APIC certification preferred for enhanced qualifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff and external agencies.
  • Experience in long-term healthcare settings is advantageous for role success.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, including DOH and JCAHO.
