Job Description

Overview

  • Manage operations of histology, cytology, and MOHS laboratories ensuring quality testing and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with Pathology Office Manager, Supervisor, and Chief Cytotechnologist for seamless laboratory operations.
  • Ensure delivery of clinical services aligning with hospital and accreditation standards.
  • Promote positive employee relations and adherence to customer service standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory standards.
  • Develop departmental goals, objectives, and budgets for operational efficiency.
  • Oversee staff training, competency, and education requirements.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote teamwork and hospital-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise laboratory tests performed by scientists, cytotechnologists, and technicians.
  • Train and assist laboratory supervisory staff for operational excellence.
  • Oversee Quality Control Program and prepare monthly reports for section meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with accrediting agency standards for laboratory operations.
  • Maintain effective communication within and outside the laboratory department.
  • Develop and implement laboratory/computer software for improved efficiency.
  • Monitor assay turnaround times and resolve vendor-related issues.
  • Interview, hire, evaluate, and counsel employees per hospital policies.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Technology or related science.
  • Minimum six years of relevant hospital experience.
  • Current NYS License as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant.
  • Preferred ASCP Certification for enhanced qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing laboratory teams and operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
  • Ability to develop and manage departmental goals and budgets effectively.
