Windows Migration Consultant

Overview

• Support the migration of Windows 10 virtual desktops to Windows 11 in an on-premises VMware Horizon environment.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure smooth migration and minimal user disruption.
• Develop and document standard operating procedures for ongoing support and troubleshooting.
• Provide hands-on support during pilot and migration phases, both remotely and on-site.
• Analyze performance, stability, and usability issues to refine configurations and deployment strategies.
• Ensure compatibility of applications and user profiles with Windows 11 Enterprise builds.
• Operate within a highly regulated enterprise environment, adhering to security baselines.
• Support on-site migrations at secondary office locations as required.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Plan and execute the upgrade strategy for persistent user-assigned virtual desktops.
• Validate application and user profile compatibility during the migration process.
• Support phased production rollout with user communications and readiness validation.
• Provide cutover support and early life stabilization during migration waves.
• Develop rollback or recovery procedures to ensure minimal disruption.
• Produce documentation for upgrade procedures, troubleshooting guides, and support handoff materials.
• Utilize PowerShell for automation, validation, and remediation tasks.
• Provide end-user support for Microsoft 365 applications in virtual desktop environments.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience; 5+ years preferred in VMware Horizon VDI support.
• Proven expertise in Windows 11 migrations and Enterprise builds.
• Strong skills in troubleshooting application compatibility and user profile issues.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and remediation.
• Experience in regulated enterprise environments adhering to security standards.
• Ability to work on-site and support secondary office migrations as needed.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
