Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Overview

• Provide psychiatric care to a diverse and clinically complex population in an on-site setting.
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and manage psychotropic medications effectively.
• Collaborate with program leadership on policy development and clinical improvements.
• Offer guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses and participate in training committees.
• Respond to emergent clinical needs, including crisis interventions and case conferences.
• Participate in incident reviews and contribute to organizational development initiatives.
• Provide emergency first aid, CPR, and other critical interventions as necessary.
• Work closely with the VP of Nursing for clinical supervision and professional development.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and develop personalized treatment plans for patients.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring medication adherence and effectiveness.
• Provide medication management to individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and program outcomes.
• Offer clinical guidance and support to nursing staff, fostering professional growth.
• Participate in crisis interventions and provide immediate clinical support during emergencies.
• Contribute to policy development and organizational training initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing with NYS certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience, with 3 years preferred, in psychiatric or substance use care.
• Strong emergency response skills and ability to manage complex clinical situations.
• Proficiency in writing, computer use, and bilingual communication preferred.
• CPR/AED/First Aid/Naloxone certification or willingness to obtain.
• Experience with mental health and substance use populations is highly desirable.
• Ability to work on-site during designated hours and provide emergency interventions.
