Overview

  • Manage daily operations of general accounting, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with financial standards and regulations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, maintaining strong internal controls and financial data reliability.
  • Supervise and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate external audits, prepare required documentation, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and Colorado school finance requirements, adapting to regulatory changes.
  • Drive process improvements and utilize modern accounting systems to enhance efficiency and analysis capabilities.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and fiscal support to schools and departments, emphasizing customer service.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making and financial system optimization initiatives within the organization.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead and supervise the general accounting team, establishing workflows and performance standards.
  • Oversee general ledger operations, journal entries, reconciliations, and close processes.
  • Develop and maintain the organization's chart of accounts and accounting policies.
  • Prepare financial statements and coordinate the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Ensure accurate fund accounting and compliance with state reporting requirements.
  • Design and monitor effective internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • Participate in ERP configuration and workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to various organizational units.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management, with 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, fund accounting, and internal controls essential.
  • Experience with ERP-based accounting systems and public sector compliance preferred.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex financial information clearly.
  • Proficiency in preparing financial reports and coordinating audits.
