Overview
- Provide phlebotomy expertise, ensuring accurate blood draws and specimen preparation across diverse patient demographics.
- Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort to patients.
- Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Float across multiple locations within Suffolk and Nassau County as required.
- Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations, maintaining safety and compliance standards.
- Package and store specimens accurately, maintaining integrity for transport and testing.
- Participate in annual department trainings to stay updated on protocols and procedures.
- Support laboratory operations by answering inquiries and reading results as needed.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and decontamination processes.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures and temperature requirements.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, ensuring accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, maintaining sample integrity.
- Comply with safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Update patient information and laboratory records accurately.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and recording maintenance data.
- Provide excellent patient care and support during specimen collection processes.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required for eligibility.
- Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience; 2 years preferred.
- Proficiency in venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations for laboratory safety and compliance.
- Ability to float across multiple locations as required.
- Strong organizational skills for specimen labeling, storage, and transport.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures and address inquiries.
