Job Description

Overview

  • Lead the creation of detailed mechanical drawings and technical documentation for electromechanical systems, ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers to transform concepts into production-ready documentation for complex assemblies and systems.
  • Develop and implement drafting standards, templates, and best practices to enhance organizational efficiency and quality.
  • Support engineering change management processes and maintain product data within PDM/PLM systems.
  • Interface with manufacturing teams and suppliers to resolve drawing and documentation issues effectively.
  • Assist with prototype builds, design reviews, and technical investigations to ensure optimal designs.
  • Mentor junior drafters, fostering skill development and adherence to high-quality documentation standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting processes and tools within the organization.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Create and maintain detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models for assemblies and components.
  • Generate comprehensive drawing packages, including assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and BOMs.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to applicable standards and company procedures for accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with engineers to convert prototype designs into production-ready documentation efficiently.
  • Support engineering change orders and maintain revision control for all documentation.
  • Review designs for manufacturability and assembly feasibility, providing constructive feedback to engineers.
  • Interface with manufacturing teams to address and resolve documentation-related issues promptly.
  • Assist with technical investigations and prototype builds to ensure design integrity and functionality.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in mechanical drafting, with 5 years preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or CATIA is essential.
  • Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and their application in drafting.
  • Experience creating detailed drawings for machined, sheet metal, and composite components.
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems and engineering documentation management processes.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, robotics, or regulated industries is advantageous.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance is preferred but not mandatory.
