Job Description

Overview

  • Provide expert proofreading services for legal documents ensuring accuracy in transcription, grammar, and formatting.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team in a hybrid work environment to meet client needs efficiently.
  • Utilize advanced tools like Adobe’s annotating tool and Microsoft Suite for document preparation.
  • Perform detailed reviews of financial printer proofs, defined terms, and cross-references.
  • Ensure compliance with Bluebook formatting guidelines and legal citation standards.
  • Support the team by handling incoming email requests and coordinating workflow effectively.
  • Contribute to a collaborative production environment requiring close coordination with team members.
  • Maintain flexibility to cover other proofreading shifts as needed to meet organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct cold reads and full reads to ensure document accuracy and coherence.
  • Review handwritten, word-processed, or printed documents against mark-ups or new masters.
  • Perform manual redlining and blacklining tasks to highlight document changes.
  • Create PDFs using E-copy of proofreading mark-ups for client distribution.
  • Proofread audio and video transcriptions for accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist in monitoring and responding to incoming email requests promptly.
  • Follow up with coordinators and requestors on additional proofreading queries.
  • Utilize Black’s Law Dictionary and citation books for legal document verification.
  • Ensure adherence to current Bluebook formatting guidelines and proofreading procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of proofreading experience in a legal setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite 2010 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
  • Familiarity with Adobe’s annotating tool for marking PDFs.
  • Thorough knowledge of proofreading procedures, symbols, and legal citation standards.
  • Ability to work under time constraints in a collaborative production environment.
  • Resourcefulness and excellent customer service skills to meet client expectations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varied shifts and organizational needs.
  • Proficiency in Black’s Law Dictionary and familiarity with Bluebook guidelines.
