Overview

  • Provide advanced care in cardiothoracic surgery, supporting surgical teams in a high-acuity hospital setting.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and critical decision-making in diverse clinical scenarios.
  • Contribute to the success and development of advanced cardiothoracic programs and initiatives.
  • Engage in leadership and mentorship roles within the Physician Assistant team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills, including vessel harvesting and surgical assistance.
  • Maintain medical staff privileges and adhere to hospital-defined practice scopes.
  • Work in a dynamic, trauma-level II environment with flexible scheduling options.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries, including vessel harvesting and first-assist roles during procedures.
  • Conduct patient evaluations, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications as required.
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care, ensuring adherence to established medical protocols.
  • Collaborate with medical teams to develop and implement effective patient care strategies.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new Physician Assistants and medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using hospital systems and software.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control standards and hospital policies at all times.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on advancements in cardiothoracic care.

Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current Physician Assistant licensure and unrestricted DEA certification.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Completion of mandated infection control certification courses.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications for relevant practice areas.
  • Proficiency in Epic software and basic Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum two years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery; five years preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in vessel harvesting and surgical first-assist roles.
