Staff ICU Nurse Overview

  • The Staff ICU Nurse will provide high-quality patient care in a critical care setting, collaborating with the Clinical Nurse Manager to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Deliver professional nursing care utilizing evidence-based practices and the nursing process to meet patient needs effectively.
  • Participate in ongoing performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care quality and safety.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate and manage comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Provide clinical leadership on the unit as assigned, ensuring adherence to established standards of practice and protocols.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing technology and equipment relevant to critical care nursing.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment to support patient and family-centered care.

Staff ICU Nurse Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide direct patient care in the ICU, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and standards.
  • Monitor and assess patients' conditions, implementing appropriate interventions as necessary.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, documenting all care provided.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
  • Participate in unit-based and organizational quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal standards.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, providing critical interventions as required.

Staff ICU Nurse Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in New York State is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an ICU setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing theory, acute care processes, and clinical standards of practice.
  • Proficiency in using healthcare technology and equipment relevant to critical care.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
