Hospital Chief Quality Officer Overview
- The Hospital Chief Quality Officer (CQO) oversees strategic quality initiatives, ensuring patient safety, performance excellence, and compliance with healthcare standards.
- Leads efforts to improve patient outcomes, reduce risks, eliminate errors, and implement best practices across the organization.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to align clinical performance goals and foster a culture of safety and excellence.
- Provides executive leadership for quality improvement initiatives, ensuring evidence-based care and safe environments for caregivers.
- Acts as a change management leader, advocating for cultural transformation and organizational accountability.
- Engages with medical staff, nursing leaders, and administrative teams to drive system-wide quality and safety improvements.
- Supports compliance with accrediting agencies, including preparation for Joint Commission surveys and other regulatory requirements.
- Promotes continual improvement aligned with the Malcolm Baldrige framework for performance excellence.
- Ensures alignment with the organization’s mission to heal, serve, and educate through quality-focused leadership.

Hospital Chief Quality Officer Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field; RN or MD/DO with Texas licensure preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of management experience in healthcare; 10 years preferred.
- FACHE certification preferred or required within three years of employment.
- Completion of IHI’s Chief Quality Officer Development Program or TeamSTEPPS curriculum within one year.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities with proven leadership skills.
- Experience with performance excellence frameworks and quality improvement methodologies.
- Ability to lead change initiatives and foster collaboration across diverse teams.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, patient care processes, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
