Radiologist Assistant Overview

  • The Radiologist Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting radiologists and ensuring high-quality patient care through advanced imaging procedures.
  • Collaborate with radiologists to perform fluoroscopy procedures, biopsies, and catheter placements under direct supervision.
  • Administer contrast media and manage patient communication, ensuring comfort and understanding during procedures.
  • Utilize EPIC, RIS, and PACS systems to document patient medical history and procedure details accurately.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure risks for both patients and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and organizational policies to maintain high-quality care.
  • Provide expertise in interventional radiography, including X-ray, CT, and ultrasound modalities.
  • Support provider teams with care coordination and effective communication to optimize patient outcomes.

Radiologist Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform advanced image-guided procedures such as fluoroscopy, biopsies, and catheter placements under direct radiologist supervision.
  • Administer contrast media following established protocols and guidelines to ensure patient safety.
  • Explain procedures to patients, address concerns, and ensure cooperation during imaging processes.
  • Document patient medical history and obtain consent using EMR, RIS, and PACS systems.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive and accurate patient care.
  • Follow radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure risks for patients and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all patient safety regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Assist in care coordination and communication within provider teams to enhance patient outcomes.

Radiologist Assistant Job Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in a related field and ARRT-approved radiologist assistant educational program completion.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) as a Radiologist Assistant within 12 months of start date.
  • Certified as a Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) through ARRT upon hire.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association are required.
  • Proficiency in EMR, RIS, and PACS systems and strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in interventional radiography preferred.
  • Certified as a Vascular Interventional Radiographer (VI) through ARRT preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to patient care.
