Job Description

Dental Assistant Overview

  • The Dental Assistant will support dentists and hygienists in delivering quality dental care to patients.
  • Utilize four-handed assisting techniques to ensure efficient and effective dental procedures.
  • Perform infection control protocols adhering to OSHA standards and organizational policies.
  • Assist in dental laboratory tasks, including pouring impressions and trimming study models.
  • Maintain and organize dental operatories and replenish necessary supplies.
  • Support reception tasks, including scheduling and confirming appointments using electronic health records.
  • Educate patients and community groups on oral health practices and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with the dental team to uphold the mission and goals of the organization.

Dental Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Act as chairside assistant during dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and procedural efficiency.
  • Take dental radiographs following established radiographic protocols.
  • Disinfect and sterilize dental instruments and maintain infection control standards.
  • Set up and close dental operatories, maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist in managing dental laboratory cases and maintaining dental equipment.
  • Support administrative tasks, including patient chart preparation and referral processing.
  • Provide oral health education to patients and community groups.
  • Report any issues or occurrences to the supervisor promptly.

Dental Assistant Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Dental Assistant Certification mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1 year chairside dental experience; 2 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in infection control practices and dental radiographic techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems for scheduling and administrative tasks.
