Estimator Overview
- The Estimator role involves preparing accurate project estimates for commercial construction projects, ensuring successful execution and collaboration with operations teams.

- Analyze project documents, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop detailed bid packages and scopes of work.
- Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and owners during preconstruction phases.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, and cost-saving opportunities while maintaining project quality.
- Stay informed of local market conditions, labor availability, and material cost trends to ensure competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to maintain strong relationships and competitive pricing.
- Participate in bid reviews, estimate presentations, and project turnover meetings, contributing to team success.

Estimator Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and hard bid estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs using digital estimating software and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Develop detailed bid packages, scopes of work, and participate in preconstruction planning activities.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and owners during preconstruction phases.
- Analyze value engineering opportunities while maintaining project quality and intent.
- Assist with budgeting and cost planning throughout the preconstruction process.
- Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and project success.
- Stay informed of local market conditions, labor availability, and material cost trends.
Estimator Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 3–10+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor.
- Experience estimating commercial office, healthcare, higher education, K-12, industrial, or manufacturing projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, building systems, and estimating principles.
- Experience reading architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of current construction costs and subcontractor markets in Central Ohio.
- Design-build or negotiated project experience is preferred.
