Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant serves as the first point of contact for patient care, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience.
  • Responsible for both administrative duties and direct patient care, supporting operational efficiency and quality healthcare delivery.
  • Performs clinical tasks including obtaining vital signs, administering medications, and conducting diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborates closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintains examination rooms, sterilizes equipment, and ensures adherence to safety protocols.
  • Documents patient information accurately in electronic medical records, supporting seamless communication and care coordination.
  • Operates under defined policies and procedures, with latitude for prioritization and independent discretion.
  • Contributes to a patient-centered care model, focusing on personalized experiences and improved health outcomes.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform patient-facing clinical duties such as discussing symptoms and obtaining vital signs.
  • Administer medications and vaccines, adhering to certification guidelines and safety standards.
  • Conduct phlebotomy procedures, collect specimens, and perform diagnostic screening tests.
  • Sterilize and clean medical equipment, maintaining examination rooms to ensure readiness.
  • Document patient information in electronic medical records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to deliver coordinated and effective patient care.
  • Support administrative operations, including scheduling and patient communication.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, utilizing discretion and judgment in task prioritization.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • Certified/Registered Medical Assistant or 5+ years of relevant experience with provider approval.
  • Hands-on phlebotomy experience, including professional blood draw procedures.
  • CPR certification required; must meet patient-facing role requirements including TB screening.
  • Preferred experience in medication/vaccine administration and value-based care models.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and CAHPS/HOS patient experience standards.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with successful completion of proficiency exam.
  • Ability to work on-site, Monday to Friday, scheduled 40 hours per week.
