Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant is a key contributor to patient care and administrative support within a healthcare setting.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Document patient symptoms and medical history accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Administer injections and medications as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, collect specimens, and draw blood for laboratory analysis.
  • Ensure examination rooms are clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Sterilize medical equipment and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care.
  • Assist in patient education and provide support during medical procedures.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient records.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credentials are highly desirable.
  • CPR certification and phlebotomy experience are required for this role.
  • Experience with medication and vaccine administration is advantageous.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred; must pass a proficiency exam.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and Value-Based Care practices is beneficial.
  • Ability to work on-site Monday to Friday, adhering to a structured 40-hour workweek.
