Medical Assistant Overview
- The Medical Assistant serves as the first point of contact for patient care, providing both administrative and clinical support in a healthcare setting.
- Collaborates closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure seamless patient care and operational efficiency.
- Performs clinical duties such as obtaining vital signs, administering medications/vaccines, and conducting diagnostic screening tests.
- Manages administrative tasks including documentation in electronic medical records and maintaining examination rooms and equipment.
- Operates under minimal supervision, adhering to defined policies while exercising discretion in prioritizing tasks.
- Ensures compliance with patient-facing protocols, including tuberculosis screening and CPR certification requirements.
- Contributes to a patient-centered care model, focusing on personalized experiences and improved health outcomes.
Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, and sterilization of medical equipment.
- Administer medications and vaccines following established protocols and certifications.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records systems.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to discuss symptoms and provide direct patient care.
- Maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient appointments.
- Follow standard policies and procedures while exercising discretion in task prioritization.
- Participate in value-based care initiatives, including HEDIS and CPT/ICD coding.
- Support bilingual communication efforts, ensuring proficiency in English and Spanish as required.
Medical Assistant Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; completion of MA school/training program preferred.
- Certified/Registered Medical Assistant or 5+ years of relevant experience with provider approval.
- CPR certification and compliance with tuberculosis screening protocols are mandatory.
- Phlebotomy and medication/vaccine administration experience are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with value-based care practices, including HEDIS and CPT/ICD coding.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred; proficiency exam required.
- Ability to work independently within defined parameters and minimal supervision.
