Assistant Director, Employee and Labor Relations Overview
- The Assistant Director, Employee and Labor Relations oversees labor management and employee relations, ensuring compliance with policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Provide strategic support to senior leadership on labor management issues and employee relations matters.
- Collaborate with leadership to address systemic performance challenges and operational matters effectively.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance understanding of policies and procedures.
- Conduct complex workplace investigations into sensitive issues, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
- Supervise the development and application of best practices in employee and labor relations policies.
- Serve as a member of collective bargaining contract negotiation committees to resolve labor disputes.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and organizational standards.
- Support a hybrid work environment, balancing remote and in-office responsibilities.
Assistant Director, Employee and Labor Relations Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee labor relations matters, including policy interpretation, employee conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Conduct investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, and other sensitive workplace issues.
- Develop and implement workshops for leadership to improve policy understanding and compliance.
- Collaborate with leadership to address operational and personnel challenges effectively.
- Ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements and resolve grievances and arbitration cases.
- Provide guidance on employee coaching, discipline, and performance improvement plans.
- Maintain compliance with labor laws and organizational policies across HR operations.
- Handle escalations and adjust workflows to address emerging challenges.
- Perform special projects and assignments as directed by management.
Assistant Director, Employee and Labor Relations Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum six years of experience in employee and labor relations; four years of supervisory experience required.
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and develop actionable plans.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and composure in sensitive situations.
- Experience in unionized or healthcare environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead collective bargaining negotiations and manage labor disputes.
