Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Perform comprehensive dermatologic evaluations, including full-body skin exams and patient histories.
• Diagnose and manage a variety of dermatologic conditions, ensuring patient-centered care.
• Evaluate and treat precancerous and cancerous skin lesions within the scope of practice.
• Conduct dermatologic procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, lesion removal, and wound care.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including dermatopathology, to inform treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with licensure guidelines.
• Educate patients on skin health, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
• Ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, and HIPAA standards in all practices.
• Participate in ongoing education and professional development to maintain expertise.

Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Job Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited NP or PA program and active North Carolina license.
• National certification (AANP/ANCC for NPs or NCCPA for PAs) is required.
• Minimum of 1 year of dermatology experience beyond clinical rotations.
• Preferred dermatology certification (DCNP or equivalent) or willingness to pursue certification.
• Proficiency in performing dermatologic procedures, including biopsies and cryotherapy.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient education abilities.
• Familiarity with dermatoscopy, EMR systems, and regulatory compliance standards.
• Interest in rural healthcare and long-term patient relationships.
