Director, Client Operations & Bookkeeping Overview

  • The Director, Client Operations & Bookkeeping will oversee a multi-client accounting portfolio, ensuring operational excellence and quality delivery.
  • Lead a team of nine professionals, managing organizational structure, performance, and succession planning.
  • Develop and implement firm-wide standards and workflows for financial processes, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for client, quality, and staffing matters, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Present review-ready financial packages to client executives and firm leadership, maintaining high standards of accuracy.
  • Drive adoption of advanced accounting technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support quality of earnings and due diligence processes, preparing adjusted EBITDA analyses and managing auditor interactions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, addressing process gaps and implementing standard templates and checklists.

  • Lead the accounting operations team, setting organizational structure and managing hiring, performance, and succession planning.
  • Oversee client governance, conducting business reviews and resolving escalations to ensure timely and accurate financial delivery.
  • Design and document firm-wide standards for financial processes, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Review and approve monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with GAAP standards.
  • Manage client relationships, including scoping, pricing, onboarding, and identifying expansion opportunities.
  • Drive adoption of advanced accounting technologies, enhancing reporting automation and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Support audit preparation and due diligence processes, managing request lists and responding to auditor queries.
  • Monitor portfolio financial performance, addressing margin erosion and partnering on pricing and staffing decisions.

Director, Client Operations & Bookkeeping Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proficiency in AP, AR, accruals, and period-end close processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software like NetSuite, QuickBooks, and Xero.
  • Experience in multi-client or outsourced accounting environments.
  • Strong communication skills for translating accounting findings into actionable guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engagement budgets and client escalations effectively.
  • Familiarity with audit preparation and quality of earnings processes.
