Physical Therapy Assistant Overview

  • The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) will provide therapeutic treatments under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.

Physical Therapy Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Implement physical therapy programs as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Administer treatments using modalities such as heat, cold, light, water, sound, and massage.
  • Guide patients through exercises, ambulation, and activities of daily living to promote recovery.
  • Monitor and report patient responses to therapy to the Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions and patient progress.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and organizational policies during therapy sessions.
  • Educate patients and families on therapy techniques and home exercises.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to patient care planning.

Physical Therapy Assistant Job Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant in New York State.
  • Minimum of six months experience as a PTA, preferably in long-term or sub-acute settings.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Strong knowledge of physical therapy modalities and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients and healthcare professionals.
