Job Description

Outpatient Mammography Technician Overview

  • The Outpatient Mammography Technician performs radiographic and mammographic procedures under the supervision of a Radiologist and Supervisor.
  • Utilizes independent judgment and technical expertise to ensure high-quality imaging and patient care.
  • Supports a diverse patient population, ranging from young adults to the elderly.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and infection control standards in all procedures.
  • Maintains and operates mammographic equipment according to specifications and guidelines.
  • Provides patient education and ensures accurate documentation in patient records.
  • Participates in training new staff and students, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Adheres to departmental productivity standards and contributes to operational efficiency.

Outpatient Mammography Technician Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform high-quality mammographic and radiographic imaging procedures as per established protocols.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety practices and federal/state guidelines.
  • Accurately document patient information, imaging results, and procedural details in the RIS system.
  • Educate patients about procedures and address any concerns or questions.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess and prepare patients for imaging procedures.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including stocking supplies.

Outpatient Mammography Technician Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited ARRT program.
  • Current ARRT certification; advanced mammography certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in performing radiographic and mammographic procedures independently.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with RIS and CPAC systems.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation safety and infection control practices.
  • Ability to educate patients and provide compassionate care.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals.
