Job Description

Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant provides essential clinical support, including patient care, diagnostic screenings, and medication administration.
  • Collaborates closely with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes and care delivery.
  • Maintains examination rooms, sterilizes equipment, and ensures compliance with healthcare standards.
  • Documents patient information accurately in electronic medical records systems.
  • Supports team leadership through mentoring, coaching, and teaching junior staff.
  • Works within defined policies but exercises discretion in task prioritization and timing.
  • Participates in the company's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program as part of patient-facing responsibilities.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Discuss symptoms with patients and obtain vital signs during clinical visits.
  • Administer medications and vaccines according to certification and guidelines.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect specimens, and conduct diagnostic screening tests.
  • Ensure examination rooms are clean, organized, and ready for patient use.
  • Collaborate with physicians and advanced practice providers for patient care planning.
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records systems.
  • Provide leadership through mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Adhere to healthcare policies and procedures while exercising independent discretion.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of MA training program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credentials strongly preferred.
  • CPR certification required; must comply with TB screening program.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience required; 2+ years preferred.
  • Experience in medication/vaccine administration and phlebotomy highly valued.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred; must pass proficiency exam.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and CAHPS/HOS Patient Experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel locally as required; mileage reimbursement provided.
