Senior Sales Tax Analyst Overview

  • The Senior Sales Tax Analyst will oversee sales and use tax compliance, audits, and account reconciliations for the client and its subsidiaries.
  • This hybrid role offers the opportunity to contribute to a $3BB American clothing company with a strong market presence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate tax rates and taxability determinations within the company's systems.
  • Support audits and maintain compliance with state and local jurisdictions for business licenses and registrations.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns, ensuring timely submissions and accurate payments.
  • Contribute to special projects and indirect tax matters, enhancing operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Leverage your expertise to research multi-state sales and use tax issues and recommend appropriate treatments.

Senior Sales Tax Analyst Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Maintain sales tax rates, taxability rules, and exemption information within ERP and tax systems.
  • Support state and local sales tax audits, including documentation gathering and data reconciliation.
  • Reconcile eCommerce sales activity across ERP, tax, and payment systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist with registrations and filings for new entities, locations, or changes in business operations.
  • Develop reconciliation procedures and controls for sales and use tax accounts and transactional data.
  • Research and resolve sales and use tax issues in a multi-state environment.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to ensure seamless integration of tax processes.

Senior Sales Tax Analyst Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Taxation, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in preparing sales and use tax returns in a multi-state environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and familiarity with Avalara AvaTax or similar systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with experience managing large transactional datasets.
  • Ability to manage multiple filing deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with retail, wholesale, and eCommerce businesses is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with Tax, Accounting, IT, and other teams.
