Medical Director Overview

• The Medical Director will oversee and implement high standards of medical care within the organization, ensuring patient-centered services and community health alignment.
• Provide medical leadership to develop and integrate ambulatory care services tailored to patient and community needs.
• Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer to align medical practices with organizational goals and mission.
• Lead recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of medical personnel across various specialties and roles.
• Coordinate clinical services, ensuring integration with mental health, nutrition, and dental care programs.
• Establish and maintain medical protocols, adapting them to evolving healthcare standards and practices.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and professional standards monitoring.
• Engage in community outreach, board meetings, and clinical service budgeting processes.
• Provide after-hours call coverage on a rotational basis and address special projects as assigned.

Medical Director Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate medical personnel, ensuring high performance and adherence to standards.
• Oversee laboratory and radiology services, managing contracts for medical supplies and equipment.
• Maintain a patient panel, balancing clinical responsibilities with administrative duties.
• Coordinate with local hospitals and medical facilities to ensure continuity of care for patients.
• Develop and implement quality improvement programs, including chart reviews and medical care assessments.
• Monitor patient utilization and staff productivity to optimize access and cost-efficiency.
• Organize in-service training programs for clinical staff to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Prepare clinical service budgets, providing justification for expenditures and resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with infection control measures and OSHA standards in all medical practices.

Medical Director Job Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and licensure to practice medicine in New York State.
• Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine is required.
• Minimum five years of clinical and administrative experience in ambulatory care settings.
• Experience in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) or similar healthcare environments preferred.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or another language is advantageous.
• Strong leadership skills to manage medical personnel and integrate clinical services effectively.
• Knowledge of quality improvement processes and healthcare compliance standards.
• Ability to coordinate with external medical facilities and community health organizations.
